our music
For hundreds of years, musicians, minstrels and entertainers told tales of great deeds and provided a structure for social events. Singing and dancing became important elements of society. At the end of the 20th Century, with the arrival and development of sophisticated recording tools, this changed dramatically as it became possible for one person to create high quality music in isolation. "Musicians" were able to dominate contemporary music, driven by large corporations, without playing a single note. Mainstream music developed a focus on the importance of the artiste and the long tradition of music in the community was usurped.
Electric Hoedown is a project aimed at returning the purpose of music to the community. Villages throughout the land are becoming populated by commuters who do not know each other. Knowing our neighbors is becoming a thing of the past. If we can ring people together through raucous and traditional dance, whether in streets, village halls, universities or even barns, our mission will have been accomplished.
